Having spent schooling and childhood here, Manan is a true Dombivlikar. His father Dr Ramesh Gujarathi practiced general surgery from 1984 to nearly 2020, until covid struck.
During schooldays from their very own MES, Manan bagged accolades every year in competitive exams, debates, and cultural activities. He secured Both MBBS (2001) and D'Orth(2007) admissions from Maharashtra CET in the open category and pursued DNB thereafter from 2008-10.
Dr. Manan holds the remarkable feat of passing both the theory and practical DNB orthopedics exam on the first attempt: less than 5% of post-graduate doctors achieved this!
Dr. Manan pursued his post graduation from Dr. G S Kulkarni's PGISP Miraj: famous for its large volume of routine and complex fracture surgeries and reputed nationwide as a premier center of teaching and learning.
After post-graduation, Dr. Manan worked at Rajawadi Municipal Hospital as senior Registrar: handling a large volume of work pertaining to fractures and emergencies. Dr. Manan found his true calling in the art and science of joint replacement surgery. He delved into fellowships for obtaining abundant exposure to total knee replacement. During the knee replacement fellowship in Mumbai, Dr. Manan was involved in more than 500 surgeries. He got selected for an international fellowship hosted by Konkuk University School of Medicine in Seoul with a full scholarship of stay and food under legendary Prof Kwang Jun Oh, MD Ph.D.
Within a year of finishing this, Dr. Manan bagged another international fellowship opportunity at Marien Hospital, Germany. Marien Hospital features training with Prof Thomas Hess, who has been part of a team that designed hip replacement, and Dr Dirk Baumann, a famous German surgeon.
Dr. Manan has been one of the youngest Orthopedic surgeons to author a chapter in a textbook studied by surgeons across India. He wrote a chapter on Pilon fractures in the current edition of "The Textbook of Orthopedics and Trauma". This book is studied by orthopedic surgeons all over India preparing for post-graduation exams. Dr. Manan is an accomplished orator, often invited to offer talks as faculty at various conferences. In his free time, Dr. Manan likes to perform Vocals, trek, and take up creative writing such as blogs and social media.
